We've officially changed our name to LLL of Orange/Culpeper! We're excited to recognize and represent a portion of our Group that is important to us.

Culpeper Regional Hospital's Baby Fair

Culpeper Regional Hospital is holding a Baby Fair on Saturday, April 25th from 10am-12pm. CRH is the only "Baby Friendly" hospital in the state of Virgina! They will have healthy snacks, door prizes, face painting, carseat safety checks and more. Your very own LLL of Orange will have a booth there, so stop by and say "Hi!" Babywearing Enrichment on Thursday!

We'll be holding a Babywearing Enrichment Meeting on Thursday. Pleasejoin us if you're interested in learning more about wearing your baby.It's a great way to have free hands, while keeping your baby close.It's also a great way to soothe a fussy baby. The founder of theCulpeper Babywearing Group, Emily Haught, will be showing us how to useRing Slings, Mei Tais, Wraps and more. Bring your own carrier if youneed help using it, or try some of Emily's!The meeting will be at 10am in the meeting room at Wilderness BranchLibrary on Thursday, Jan. 15th. This is just a reminder about our Social. It is going to be tons of fun and there will be toys forthe kids to play with so they will be busy.

It is on November 19th @ 10:00am. It is going to be held at Sarah's house. The address is 29292 St. Just Dr, Unionville, VA 2267. It is about 10-15 minutes from the library.

Please join us for an Apple Pie Making Social on November 19th.

We will provide the apples and some of the supplies. We ask that you bring your own pie plate and a box of 2 pie crusts. Everyone will also need to contribute an ingredient.

Please RSVP by November 1st so we can figure out how much of each ingredient we are going to need. This will be a kid-friendly fun time and you will have a yummy apple pie to take home with you!

Group Jobs

For the 4th quarter of the year (Oct., Nov., Dec), we are looking for
some help from our members and Group Moms. We need your help with a
few jobs. By signing on, you're only committing to the job for 3
months. At that time, you can either choose a new job for a change
of pace, or take a break from Group Jobs. Below is a list of the
jobs:

Keeper of the Toys- You would be responsible for bringing our Toy
Bag/Box to each meeting, encouraging the children to help clean up
the toys after the meeting, and taking the Toy Box with you. (If
you know that you won't be able to make it to a meeting, we ask that
you get the Toy Box to a Leader or another member prior to the
meeting.)

Data Entry/Admin. - After each meeting, you would enter any new moms
information into a spreadsheet. You would help out if we did a
mailing or other administrative project.

Social Coordinator- You would assist the Leaders in planning and
executing monthly Social Events. (i.e- emailing a reminder, or
helping gather supplies, choose location, etc...)

Please let us know if you have questions, or are interested. Any
help would be greatly appreciated! !!

Upcoming Social Events

We'd like to tell you about a few upcoming Social Events that we have
in the works. (Specific dates/times are TBD.)

October: We'll have Pumpkin Painting! Bring your own pumpkin, and
we'll provide paint and arts & crafts supplies to decorate your
pumpkins. Everyone please bring a snack to share.

November: Let's make apple pie! Kid-friendly apple pie making- a great
way to enjoy fall's delicious apples.

December: Good old-fashioned cookie-swap!

To help us facilitate some of these events, we are looking for a Social
Coordinator- someone to help the Leaders plan & execute the end-of-year
Social Events. If you are interested and able, please contact Jen (540-

Interested Moms Meeting- Rescheduled!!

The Interested Moms Meeting will be re-scheduled for Wednesday,
September 17th at 10.30am at Sweetbriar Park in Lake of the Woods.
Please call/email Jen (sholtisfamily @ comcast. net) for specific
directions. I will post something the night before announcing a rain
plan if it looks like we'll have inclement weather. Please don't
forget to call or email Jen or Sarah to let us know if you plan to
come, so that we can make sure you're buzzed into the front gate!

Make sure to attend if you're interested in becoming more involved with
LLL!

Directions:
From Rt 3/Culpeper...
Take Rt 3 into Orange County
Turn Rt. at Lake of the Woods Pkwy
At the gate, make a right onto Lakeview Pkwy
Look for the brown signs for Sweetbriar Park/Community Center on your right (about a mile)
Follow the signs to Sweetbriar!

Breastfeeding and Alcohol

Here is the information from Dr. Hale's website as promised:

Ethanol passes into milk while it is in the plasma compartment. I
generally suggest it is ok to breastfeed after one, maybe two regular
drinks (not supersized).

Or the mom can wait for about 3-4 hours following her last ingested
drink, or just wait until she is sober.

Remember alcohol passes into and OUT of milk as a function of
maternal plasma level. Thus as the mom's level drops, so do the
levels in milk.

This all means that if the mom does not have high levels of alcohol
in her blood, then her milk is not likely to have high levels either.

One last comment. Alcohol is believed to reduce milk synthesis to a
slight degree, some caution is recommended for moms with poor milk
supply. Secondly, it may impart a 'taste' to milk that infants don't
like, so they may refuse to breastfeed until the alcohol is gone.

Coming East on Route 3 (I presume) toward Fredericksburg:
- Take a left onto the Route 3 West exit toward Culpeper
- Take the next right exit toward Dixon Street/17/route 2
- Take a right at the bottom of the ramp onto Route 2/Dixon Street
- At the next light make left (slight left) onto Charles Street
- Next light, take a left onto Lafayette Blvd
- Take almost immediate right on Kenmore and then the VERY next immediate right
onto Prince Edward Street.
- Make a right onto Charlotte Street. Church parking lot is on the left; there
are two, directly across from the post office parking for mail trucks.
